BRI Liga 1 is the highest level professional football league in the Indonesian football league system. 18 clubs compete for the title with a promotion and relegation competition system.
PT. Liga Indonesia Baru is the official operator of Liga 1 with each of the 18 participating clubs as major shareholders. The league takes place in one full year (calendar) from March to November. A total of 34 matches for each league participant played home and away (home and away).
However, specifically for the 2021-2022 League 1 Season Competition, considering that the competition is still running in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, there are several breakthroughs that must be made so that the competition runs safely. The competition system uses a bubble system, or bubble to bubble is an option, namely where each league 1 contestant gathers centrally on the island of Java and all league 1 teams do not play in their own cages, the new competition system so that later it will not become a new cluster spreading the virus Covid-19.
This BRI Liga 1 competition was first formed by PSSI in 2008 under the name Indonesian Super League. Formed as the embodiment of the first professional soccer competition in Indonesia, which previously only competed as an amateur by still relying on the APBD as capital to compete, it became an industry-based and professional soccer competition.
